| Truly AMAZING DAYS to
begin |
| |
Starting Monday, October 1st, Horizon Hobby employees
will spend six days building half of a home in partnership with Amber
Overcast and her family. The second half will be built from
October 29th - November 3rd.
Not only is Horizon supplying
the volunteer labor that allows us to keep home costs down, Horizon
is providing the funds needed to purchase the materials and
specialist labor: $64,500. Ten percent of that total will go to
Habitat Mexico as part of Habitat International's tithing program
(see below).

Please
drive by 1105 N Goodwin, Urbana, this week. Meet Amber, meet her
build partners turned friends and help us celebrate homes,
relationships and community in Champaign County. |

| More on tithing |
| |
Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County participates
in HfH International's tithing program, wherein a portion of cash
raised for each home build is donated to affiliates outside the US.
To date, Champaign County has built 44 homes in Mexico, nearly one
home for each built here!
Habitat houses in Mexico shelter
families in rural, semi-urban and urban areas. The average house
goes up in roughly three weeks, measuring between 42 to 49 m2 (453
to 527 sf). In compliance with urban housing code requirements,
Habitat houses in cities measure the minimum 60 m2 (645 sf) and have
electrical and plumbing installations.
The average Habitat
house has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, a living-dining room
and either a dry latrine or toilet. Partner families pay their loan
in an average of seven years through monthly installments (about
US$74), a much more affordable cost than rents paid for inadequate
shelter (roughly US$100 to US$200). |
