| Amazing Home |
| |
 Today
the entire exterior - crawlspace, porch, roofing, siding, windows
doors - will be done. In just six days, Horizon Hobby has created
more than half of the home that will be the foundation of Amber and
her family's future.
 Amber's
new neighbor, Mr. Brown, tells us that before we began to build, the
lot was becoming a place where cars were stashed and kids did "bad
things." He told Build Volunteer Manager Ellen Willcox that he asked
them to move the cars. Their response frightened him. Now there will
be a new home and a family that will care for their home and the
neighborhood and new playmates for his own daughter.
 On
the other side of the lot live an elderly gentleman and his "bride,
Roberta." Roberta has worried about how hot it was on site and was
going to bring the builders all some juice. Both came outside
because they heard "the music of the hammers."
 Walking
down Beech Street, the neighbors have exclaimed "how cool it is that
WE are getting a Habitat house," asking that Habitat "make sure they
know they are welcome." People drive by, honk, wave, stick their
thumbs up in the air. The children on their way to and from school
talk and try to get us to give them snacks!
 Then
there is the Horizon group, all of whom they take their philanthropy
very seriously. Each and everyone participant is grateful for the
opportunity to build a home for Amber and for the community. No task
is beneath any of them, from top executive to warehouse worker.
There is such simple, quiet sincerity throughout all of them that
chose to do this work, to give this gift of self, with dignity, and
laughter and a sincere desire to do something good.
And we
know just as many Horizon-ites are back at the office, carrying on
business with fewer hands and just as much love.
Thank you,
Horizon Hobby, thank you. |
