Homestead Corporation, Urban League and Eco-Lab are
all looking for low income home owners.
Homestead
Corporation is a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO)
dedicated to providing access to decent, reasonably priced housing
for residents of the Champaign-Urbana area with inadequate
resources. Families that have incomes at or below 80% of the median
family income, adjusted for family size, for the Champaign-Urbana
area, who are first-time home buyers, and who can qualify for a
mortgage loan through a local lending institution, may participate
in Homestead's program. For more information on the Homestead
Corporation, please see their web
site or call (217) 328-9373.
Urban
League's Lease Purchase Program is designed to assist residents who
need to repair their credit or save for a down payment to purchase a
home. The Urban League of Champaign County will purchase the home
and lease to a resident for a period of two to three years, and
subsequently the home can be purchased from the Urban League of
Champaign County. Additional grant money may be available. To learn
more about the Lease Purchase Program, contact Jean Algee at
(217)363-3333 ext 22 or via email at
jalgee@urbanleague.net.
Continuing
the momentum from Fairview House No. 1, for 2007, e-co lab is again
working with the City of Urbana to build another super
energy-efficient house in Urbana for a qualifying first-time
homebuyer. To be located at 1007 W. Fairview Ave (next door to
Fairview House No. 1), this home will be a four bedroom, two bath,
1450 square foot home and like the Smith House and first Fairview
House, it has been designed and will be constructed to Passive House
standards (reducing energy use by a Factor of 10). The $120,000
sales price of the house (well under market value) will be made
possible through $25,000 grant donation of the lot from the City of
Urbana as well as through donations from individuals and local
businesses. If you are a first time-homebuyer thinking of buying
this house, keep in mind that the $120,000 sales price could be
reduced even further (up to $11,000) through the PAID program
(217-721-7243) and other down payment initiatives. Click here
for more information. |
