Thank you for your food

+The Foodbank delivers annually over 4.5 million pounds of food product to 14 counties, over 8,000 square miles. This amounts to about 350,000 pounds, on the average, of food products distributed per month.

+The food distributed through the Foodbank reaches almost 25,000 people each month.

+The majority of recipients of the Foodbank's food products are children and senior adults, while approximately 50% of the households served contain at least one working adult.

Let’s hear a big slip-sliding HOORAY for our Habitat build volunteers from Saturday the 23rd!

Obviously neither rain, nor heat, nor deepest mud keeps Habitat volunteers from their appointed tasks - because we had all of those things on Saturday. Even with all that mother nature threw at us, we worked all day. We gathered under gray, rainy skies and promptly began to sheet the roofs. While trudging through mud puddles we put up the porch trusses and hammered up blue board. After a delicious lunch provided by the Whirlwind group, under rain and then blazing heat, we installed all of the doors and windows on both homes.

Thanks you Beth Beck, Jordan Beck, Charles Blatti, Brian Bole, Chris Chatfield, John Chatfield, Bob Coverdill, Stephanie Davidson, Kurt Erbach, Kim French, Greg Goebel, Elder John, Board member George Kieffer, Paul Loschak, Brain Lovdahl, Andrew Lovdahl, Ryan Meiergerd, Ben Nugent, Paul Onderisin, Herman Riddick, Board member Alejandra Seufferheld, Gabriela Seufferheld, Alicia Tosdal, Elder Voss and Steve Walker.

Thank you, too, to Wayne Wendland and the generous Whirlwind Project group for our snack and lunch and Dave Bagger for our coolers of ice and water. We are now at a whopping 959 volunteer hours towards making this dream come true for our two families.

Thanks also to Norm Fisher and his magic camera – check out his photos here. Norm along with Julia Schmidt and Joan Wingo have worked tirelessly to inform and recruit volunteers from the Lutheran Churches. Thank you to our sponsors, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Illini Radio Group.

And a long overdue thank you to the neighbors on Bradley Avenue. Thank you for making us all welcome.

Farewell to Beatrice!

Beatrice Rich’s last day is tomorrow, Saturday, June 30. As Receiving Coordinator, she’s been a fixture in our store since April 2006, and has seen many, many changes here since she started. Beatrice is moving to Fayetteville, Georgia – about 30 minutes from Atlanta – with her husband Darrell. They’ll be joining a megachurch that they have been involved with for some time. The church has an outreach ministry that helps people in need of food, clothing, and shelter, which is what Beatrice is most interested in. “I think the opportunity to continue helping others in the community and lead them to Christ is what I look forward to most,” she says. She will continue work with her perfume oils business, Rich Oils, buy a home, and look for another ReStore job in the area or something else in customer service - as long as it’s working with people. There are many things Bea will miss about her position here at Habitat, but most of all she’ll miss “the people.” She says she’s learned a lot from working with so many different people – from customers to staff to volunteers. What she won’t miss about this job: “the miles of walking each day.” We all wish Beatrice the best of luck in her new town – she will surely be missed!
