Women Build Homes with the Corona Family

Last Wednesday night, women from throughout our community came together to learn more about Habitat's Women Build Homes program and how to get involved.

Future home owner Maricela Corona shared her family's story of immigration, divorce and struggle to give her children a future. We also learned that Maricela had volunteered with Habitat for a good year as part of the Spanish Outreach Committee before realizing she might take part in the program. A true partner!

In the coming weeks you'll be hearing about ways you may help: from spreading the word about this woman-led program, to building the house in 2008, to helping raise the needed $64,500.To make your own donation of $5, $10 or $64.50 now, click here.

Thank you to Celia Elliott, Deb Harvey, Dennie Hensleigh, Heather Keigher, Kathy Maniates, Danielle Matthews, Heather McArty, Nancy Merz, Linda Randall, Chris Ray, Alejandra Seufferheld and Meagan Smith for taking on this challenge.

IBEW Local 601 - You Light Us Up!

Thank you to IBEW Local 601members Chuck Leman, Larry Barber, Dan Holskin, Mike Siems, Mike Herbert, Rick Martin, Josh Pellum, Patty Udical, Mike Melvin and Gus Batista for coming out on Saturday the 7th to wire both homes.

A huge round of applause for Rose Heating and Air and RC Plumbing for working during their business week (in the heat) and making huge strides in preparing our homes for our families!

Expertly applying siding, alongside our families, was Daniel Beaudoin, Sandy Burt, Barry Conrad, Mary Ellen Dorner, John Garlisch, Henry Gerlach, Robert Hesterberg, Maribeth Holhubner, Fred Holhubner, Kathy Hughes, George Kieffer, Vern Magnuson, Ray Parks, Herman Reddick, Gabriela Seufferheld, Kristen Strom, Pastor Strom, Gabe Strom, Sandy Strom, Steve Walker, and David Willcox. The Allen Family home is now a lovely cream color and the Dominguez Family home is a soft blue-gray.

Providing an amazing lunch was Nilsa Almenas, Jan Brooks, Michele Brown, Cathy Digges, Jo Erickson, Clarice Henry, Chris Holhubner, Jennifer Holhubner, Beverly Kieffer, Diana Masher, Lisa Stahl, Peggy Walterhausen and Claire Walworth. Thank you to Celia Elliott for the Gatorade!

Neighbor of the week: Bino! He came by the site to talk of his love for Habitat.

Recipe of the week: cinnamon rolls! Let me know if you want a copy.

Soon we will finish the siding, work on the crawl space vapor barrier and maybe some big surprises! Do you want to join us?

Foundations are built on funds

Every Habitat home is built through the generosity of this community. But raising up to $70,000 is daunting. If you've been looking for a way to give within your means - and contribute to our mission to build community - you might set up a challenge campaign.

Challenge gifts may be any size. In telling community members you’ll give $5 for every $25 they give, or will match every $50 gift up to ten gifts, you'll have a chance to tell them why you feel so strongly about Habitat's work.

For added suspense, make this challenge during a fundraising event or even this publication. You or the host can announce, “We now have the Dave Buck-Challenge. For the next five minutes, Dave will give $5 for every new donor that joins him in supporting Habitat for Humanity.”
