We need WOMEN volunteers!

63 Debbie introduces the next homeowner-to-be Darlene Powers We are nearing the completion of Darlene Powers' home on 901 N. Division in Urbana! The home is being built in conjunction with the Women Build Homes committee, for the Powers Family. Women Build Homes exists not to exclude men, but to include women in a typically male-dominated industry. Women have the chance to gain construction skills while helping a worthy family!
For Women Builds, we encourage women and women groups to fill the majority of the volunteer slots. That's not to say men can't sign up!

If you or your group are interested in signing up, click the Volunteer Up button below and look for the Powers WBH Build calendar item. Then pick your day and get signed up! Hurry: time is running out and shifts are filling fast. Questions can be directed to Diana at 217-819-5115 or [ email ].

We broke ground on our 60th home on October 4, 2011. The property is being given to Arica Moss and her three daughters. Being erected in conjunction with the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and the University of Illinois Habitat for Humanity Student Chapter, all those interested in volunteering on that build site as it progresses are encouraged to visit their homepage.

Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build relationships and strengthen community through the construction of new homes with qualified low income families. Though the vast majority have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

RESTORE VOLUNTEERS

There is always lots to do at the ReStore!  Volunteers check in donations, help customers, stock the store and more.  The ReStore is a major contributor to Habitat's efforts and also keeps over 200 tons of material out of local landfills every year.  Before they are allowed to donate their time, ReStore volunteers must first attend an orientation session. These are held weekly on Tuesdays at 11AM and Thursdays at 3PM. After the initial walk-through and informational session,  a volunteer can give their time whenever the store is open.  Click here for more information.

All people are welcome to share their time at the Habitat ReStore; the volunteers are as diverse and giving as the store patrons. One such helper is a soon-to-be ninety-four year-old man named Art Durfee. His on-going commitment to Habitat for Humanity is strong and rooted in the belief that a hand-up is always better than a hand-out. To read more about Art, click here.
